WordsFlare Privacy
WordsFlare is local-first. You can use its typing tools, training, skill assessment, and adaptive accuracy and speed practice without creating an account.
What stays in your browser
Typing results, beginner and performance training progress, personal pace, skill assessment summaries, Code Typing progress, aggregate per-key accuracy, daily results, local game bests, and settings are stored in browser localStorage. WordsFlare keeps at most the 250 most recent detailed typing sessions, 200 beginner training attempts, 250 performance attempts, 200 Code Typing attempts, and 10 completed assessments while preserving relevant aggregate totals.
How keystrokes are handled
Keystrokes are processed in the page to compare your input with the displayed text. They are not uploaded. Raw keystroke timestamps are not stored indefinitely.
Guided training data
Lesson status, training summaries, and per-key correct and incorrect counts stay in this browser. These aggregates support weak-key practice only after enough observations. WordsFlare does not upload learner keystrokes.
Typing skill assessment data
Assessment targets are generated locally from a version and deterministic seed. Typing is compared in the page, and only a completed summary is stored: overall and section metrics, skill-area results, aggregate physical-key evidence, the recommendation, version, seed, duration, and completion date. Full targets can be regenerated, so they are not stored with each result. Raw keystroke timelines and incomplete assessments are not retained. The latest assessment's per-key aggregates may contribute conservatively to weak-key recommendations alongside typing-test and training evidence.
Accuracy and speed training data
Performance training runs locally. Personal pace is derived in the browser from qualifying typing-test history, accurate assessment text, qualifying longer controlled sessions, or a short local calibration. Stored attempt summaries contain aggregate accuracy, WPM, correction counts, target-at-attempt details, lesson progress, deterministic seeds, and completion dates. Accuracy Training and accurate, meaningful Sustained Pace sessions may add aggregate physical-key evidence to Weak Keys. Short bursts and other speed drills are excluded so intentional overspeed errors do not distort recommendations. Temporary timing data is discarded after the session, and raw keystroke or word-timing timelines are not retained.
Code Typing and custom code
Bundled Code Typing runs locally and stores bounded lesson progress, deterministic seeds, aggregate result metrics, language activity, and conservative symbol-key evidence in this browser. Snippets are rendered as plain text and are never executed. Custom code is normalized and compared only in the current page; it is not uploaded, executed, written to localStorage, or included in export. Refreshing or leaving the Custom Code page clears that source text.
Custom practice text
Custom text is treated as plain text, remains in the current page, and is not stored by default. It is not uploaded by WordsFlare.
No accounts, advertising, or analytics
WordsFlare has no account system, public leaderboard, advertising, affiliate widgets, or third-party analytics. It does not use account cookies or browser fingerprinting.
Your controls
The statistics page lets you export local data, including beginner training, performance training, personal pace, assessment history, and Code Typing progress, as validated JSON; import a previous WordsFlare export; or delete all WordsFlare browser data after confirmation. Older Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, and Phase 4 exports without newer namespaces remain supported. Delete All removes assessment, performance, Code Typing, calibration, personal pace, and every other WordsFlare storage namespace. You can also clear site data using browser controls.
Storage is not a permanent backup
A browser, device cleanup tool, private-browsing session, or user action can clear local storage. Export a JSON copy if you want a portable backup.
Local-first scope
There is no public leaderboard. Shared daily text contains only WPM, accuracy, and the challenge URL; it does not include stored personal data.
