How WordsFlare calculates WPM

One standard typing “word” equals five characters, including spaces. Displayed WPM divides correct final aligned characters by five, then divides by elapsed minutes. Raw WPM uses all printable characters entered.

Accuracy compares correct printable keystrokes with total printable keystrokes. It stays between zero and 100 percent. Backspace is excluded, while corrected and uncorrected errors remain visible in the result.

Keyboard shortcuts

When does the typing test start?

The timer starts with your first valid printable input, not when the page loads or the input receives focus.

Does backspace lower raw WPM?

Backspace does not count as a printable keystroke. The mistake remains part of accuracy, while the correction is recorded separately.

Why can raw WPM be higher than WPM?

Raw WPM counts every printable character entered. Displayed WPM counts only correct final characters aligned with the passage.
