Brackets, quotes, operators, newlines, and indentation add precise keyboard movements. Code Typing keeps WPM visible, but lesson mastery is based on repeated accurate control rather than speed.

Code Typing FAQ

Does WordsFlare run the code I type?

No. Bundled snippets and custom targets are rendered as plain text. WordsFlare does not compile, evaluate, preview, or execute code.

Which languages and formats can I practice?

Eight guided tracks cover HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, JSON, Python, SQL · SQLite syntax, Bash. Three separate foundations cover symbols, structure, and identifiers. HTML is markup, CSS styles pages, JSON represents data, SQL queries data, and Bash uses shell syntax.

Can I paste my own code?

Yes. The Custom Code page accepts up to 30,000 characters as a temporary plain-text target. Paste is allowed during setup and blocked during the scored typing session.

Is my custom code uploaded or saved?

No. Custom code remains in the current browser page, is not uploaded, is not written to local storage, and is not included in WordsFlare export.

Why does Code Typing use spaces instead of Tab for indentation?

Tab remains normal keyboard navigation for accessibility. Code Typing represents indentation with spaces, similar to text an editor may insert automatically.

Does Code Typing measure programming ability?

No. Results measure keyboard fluency and accuracy on code-shaped text, not language knowledge or programming proficiency.
